Currently we have a contract position available for a Software and Lab Automation Engineer at our Panasonic Emerging Advanced RF Laboratory (PEARL) located in Santa Clara, CA.





Duties and Responsibilities:


1. Development and Maintenance of lab automation applications (Labwindows C, Instrument drivers, Matlab, Graphical user interface).


a. Improve and add features required by new IC designs and instruments.


b. Improve architecture and module abstraction, re-architect some SW sections.


c. Create new small applications based on immediate needs of lab users and new designs.


d. Implement data management features with Excel and SQL interfacing.


e. Participate in design and implementation of new measurement processes and RFIC optimization algorithms.


f. Capture, discuss and track requirements from lab users for application changes and new features.


g. Perform QA tests on lab applications shipped to partner laboratories.





2. Development and maintenance of complex Excel spreadsheets used for IC configuration and report generation


a. Develop and maintain Excel macros.


b. Track version compatibility XL / Applications / RFICs.


c. Implement and maintain Excel / Labwindows Automation features.





3. Participation in new projects involving database interface, scripting languages, user interface design, hardware and data tracking systems.





Qualifications required:


1. BS in Computer Science or suitable EE domain with 1 year SW experience.


2. Proficient in C programming.


3. Very good understanding of principles of complex program architecture, build processes, PC architecture, best principles in coding and SW architecture.


4. Motivation to learn elements of digital communications, RF engineering, signal processing and digital hardware design.


5. Team attitude with capability to work in fast development environment, in constant communication with hardware, system and verification engineers.





Qualifications Desired:


1. Experience with lab automation, wireless communication systems (2.5G, 3G, 4G) and communication related instruments (scopes, spectrum analyzers, cellular testers…).


2. Familiarity with hardware design concepts (FPGA design, PCB and analog circuits, digital debugging on boards).


3. Familiarity with object oriented software design and associated language, C++ or Java.


4. Familiarity with Matlab, Excel and Visual Basic


5. Motivation to expand knowledge into measurement, signal and hardware design areas.
