Position Summary:
The communications and marketing assistant will assist the Director of Marketing with developing and implementing the Museums marketing and communications plans. The Marketing and Communications Assistant communicates on a daily basis with Museum staff and volunteers. Job duties entail helping to oversee all marketing and communications initiatives including printed marketing materials, public relations, newsletters, annual reports, advertising, online marketing efforts, website, electronic blasts, and press releases. The ideal candidate is passionate about social change issues on a global scale. This is an excellent opportunity to gain top-notch marketing and communication skills both nationally and internationally.
Salary Range: $35,000 - $45,000 annual and based on experience (range is fixed).
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assist with the creation and implementation of all external and internal marketing and communications strategies, content and materials for website, brochures, promotional materials, emails, presentations, direct mail, newsletters, annual reports and special events
Contribute to the planning, implementation, and analysis of brand initiatives and branding campaigns
Draft press releases, presentations, write scripts and other content as directed
Assist with developing relationships with journalists, publications, broadcast media and websites
Assist with developing compelling, timely publicity angles and actively pitch stories
Assist with creating press kit contents
Oversee updating of the media database
Assist with maintaining digital library
Manage press clips and develop processing system
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in marketing, communications, journalism, and/or public relations
4 year degree with preferred emphasis in marketing, communications, journalism, and/or public relations
Experience in a non-profit environment a plus
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Strong editing and proofreading skills
Extremely detailed orientated
Solid project management skills and experience
The personality and composure to work with major media; ability to cold pitch required
Ability to manage many tasks simultaneously
Professional demeanor, able to maintain discretion and confidentiality
Great sense of humor with the ability to work in a start up and fast paced environment
Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for special events
HTML and Adobe InDesign capabilities are a definite plus, but not required
Interest in the Museums mission and international womens issues
